Dear
Member of MCC Windsor;
As you
may have heard, Westminster United Church, where we currently lease space, has
decided to close their doors and amalgamate (join) Emmanuel United Church. The
Westminster Building will be sold. Westminster's congregation plans to vacate
the space by the end of the summer.
The MCC
Windsor Board has passed the following motion:
"Moved,
that MCC Windsor will join with Emmanuel United Church and Westminster United
Church to share as partners in ministry at the Emmanuel United Church site no
later than September 30, 2013."
The
details will be worked out soon, including rental costs and terms, extent of
partnership, and so on. Please be assured that MCC Windsor has made it very
clear that while we welcome sharing in community activities, fundraising, and
worship with Emmanuel/Westminster, we will remain MCC Windsor and retain our
identity and role as a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender,
two-spirited, questioning and allied people in Windsor.
We are
therefore calling a congregational meeting asking for congregational approval
of this motion on SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2013, immediately after service.
There
will possibly be another congregational meeting later in the summer if our
budget must be refigured in a way that requires congregational approval. If the
bottom line remains the same (i.e., amounts are moved from one area to
another), no meeting will be required. Once we know more about rental costs,
etc. you will be informed.
