Text of Letter to Members and Friends of MCC Windsor, February, 2013

My apologies for not posting this sooner, but I think (and hope) that most readers of this blog received this information already via other means of communication.

This is an exciting opportunity for us! Stay tuned as we move through the process. We will keep you updated as regularly as possible.

Dear members and friends of MCC Windsor;

Greetings in the name of Christ!

MCC Windsor has shared space with Westminster United Church for ten years. On Sunday, February 3, the congregation of Westminster reluctantly decided they must sell the building. It is an old building, with many needed upgrades that are very costly, and the congregation of Westminster simply cannot afford to maintain the building. They have been exploring other options for some time, always with the understanding that wherever they went, MCC Windsor must be welcome, too. They are now contemplating joining with Emmanuel United Church (1728 Lincoln Rd,, between Tecumseh Rd. and Ottawa, their website is www.emmanuelunited.org). For the time being, they would have a rental arrangement with Emmanuel, although they would share worship.

MCC Windsor has been invited to move with Westminster to share space with Emmanuel, also on a rental basis, as we do here at Westminster.  Details such as rent amounts and space arrangements are still to be worked out.

To help both Westminster and MCCW with this decision, Emmanuel has invited all the congregations to worship together on Sunday, February 17 at 10:30 am. After worship, Emmanuel will host an "open house," for tours of the building and to meet members of the other congregations. MCC Windsor will have our usual worship service at 1:30, followed by a congregational forum (discussion), before the Board meeting.

There is no decision that has to be made at this time; Westminster plans to move sometime in the late spring, so there is time to think it over.

Overall, we feel it offers many opportunities for us, such as shared resources (possibly telephone/Internet, janitorial services, secretarial support, etc.). Emmanuel is on the Lincoln Rd. bus line, has its own parking lot as well as street parking, and is easy-access from EC Rowe (via Walker Rd). Our other option is to look for other space entirely, but at this time we believe this would be the best choice.

We invite you to join us as you are able (we realise that this is short notice) on Sunday, February 17 at 10:30 for worship and the open house at Emmanuel, then at 1:30 for worship and a forum at MCCW.

We will keep you posted on further developments as well as a summary of the discussion on February 17.

In Christ,
Board of Directors, MCC Windsor
